The first casualty of war is the truth, and in the eight Duchies of Predorenn truth has been dead for a long time. War has raged here for centuries, and the achievements of culture and reason of a more civilised day and age have long fallen victim to the ever-present violence and treachery. Any knowledge or information may just be an enemy ruse – or not. No one can still distinguish between superstition and a fact-based lore warning of a danger far greater than all the armies of the Eight Realms put together.

So no one believes in the existence of the Urgorrn, those gruesome super-beings who have turned humanity into live chess pieces on their global game board. Nor does anyone believe that the legendary Council of arcane warriors, who knew how to fight them once, truly existed: they are seen to be outdated myths, nothing more. Nothing but children’s stories.

But some old myths persevere, while some new rumours are quite untrue: gold and precious gems! Immense riches are said to be found on an uncharted island in the icy Northern Sea. The war has made everyone poor and hungry, and therefore many set out to find and claim these treasures. Riches that you only have to travel to seem to be the last and only hope for the desperate.

Leftenant Lilyenn, the water-woman of a special underwater fighting unit with their ocean adapted bodies, is also sent out on an official expedition. But things are not what they seem on the ship chartered by her Duchess. The “Sea Cat” is drifting further and further off course, and nobody listens to the young officer, who – apart from a mysterious stowaway – is the only woman on board. Lilyenn must fight to be taken seriously in the rough male company. But Lilyenn is tough and determined and learns how to deal with her arrogant shipmates.

As the ship sails further and further into the deadly ice front of the far north, it becomes clear that the captain and crew have something very different in mind for their passengers than seeking riches with them. By then, however, it is already too late. Death is lurking between the precipitous ice cliffs, and beyond the ice, a horrible danger awaits them.
